so many lifelines!

 Bauji had gone to office. My mother got my brothers readied for the school and sent them away. She was feeling a bit uneasy. She thought, she would get herself examined from the nearby dispensary, before the children were back from school. While on the way she felt labor pains. She started walking briskly towards dispensary.

 Doctor was not present in the dispensary. A senior nurse was present there. She was nurse cum midwife. She examined my mother and asked her to lie down on the bed for a while. She felt there was still some time left for the young one to arrive. So she asked my mother to wait for two minutes and started going towards her room. Hardly one minute had passed than my mother felt my delivery was about to happen. She cried for help. It was probably a miracle, that the nurse instantly turned back, ran towards my mother, and caught me in her hands! The efficient and smart nurse saved two lives at a time!

  My mother's aunt used to live in a very big mansion. My mother and we children went with in our summer vacations. We children used to play and have fun all over the place. Sometimes downstairs and sometimes upstairs, we ran and jumped, shouted and laughed. I was four years old then. All other children were elder and senior to me. They all were very naughty. I could not understand much then, but I simply used to enjoy their antics.

 It was almost 4 pm in the evening. All the ladies of the house were taking a short nap. All the children were playing on the roof. They were making noises, sometimes they went down, and then ran on the staircase. Elders were scolding them. But they were not paying any heed to them.  Suddenly they started looking down from the wall of the roof. The wall was not very high. In fact it was half of my length!

 All the children were looking down and laughing loudly. I did know what interesting there was. I became very curious. When I could not see down, I bent over a little more over the wall . Even then I could not see anything. As I bent a little more my feet lost ground. I caught hold of top round knob shaped structure of the wall.

  Now the scene was that I was hanging upside down holding the wall .All the children were stunned and continuously staring at me. I was holding wall firmly, so that I might not fall down. Suddenly an elderly person rushed upstairs and caught hold of me. I am sure that I was about to lose grip of the wall at that very moment; but then certainly the hands of life saver are very long!

  On the eve of Kartika Purnima festival, bathing in sacred rivers is considered to very pious. All the members of our family went to river Yamuna early in the morning on that very day. People try to take bath near the bank of the river, as it is safe. Drowning may be unavoidable if one tries to go far from bank of the river. Only swimmers may try to go deep inside.

 We were bathing near the bank of river. I must probably have been ten years old then. Bauji was holding my hand. Somehow I got freed my hand and tried to go a little more towards the river. Suddenly a big wave appeared. My feet lost the grip of the sandy ground underneath. The wave started pushing me slowly towards the river. Bauji was probably taking care of my younger sister. He was not looking at me. I thought I will be taken away with the powerful currents of the river. Water was nearing my chin. It was about to reach above my head. I shouted loudly," Bauji !"  .  He at once turned back and quickly caught hold of me. Within seconds, I would have drowned, but it was not destined. So I possibly got a new lease of life!

 I was feeling headache early in the morning. Pain reliever was placed inside the closet. I did not ask anyone about taking the medicine. Empty stomach, I took the medicine. After that I went to my school .After morning assembly, it was physics practical period. My physics teacher was explaining about some experiment .All the ninth class students were standing near practical table. Surrounded by the students my teacher was very busy explaining every small detail. All the students were listening very carefully.

 Suddenly I stared feeling giddy. Everything became blank in front of my eyes. I tried to tell the student beside me about it. Till she could understand something; I fell vertically behind on my back on cemented floor with loud bang!. My head was bleeding profusely. I became unconscious. I felt as if I am lying on a railway platform. There is red light all over the place. People are standing surrounding me. My physics teacher was asking me, “what happened?".

  Suddenly I became conscious. I saw all the students were standing surrounding me. My physics teacher was caressing me and asking me about my wellbeing. Doctor of my school, put dressing on my wound, and sent me home.  My mother was totally at a loss to understand as what had happened to me . All our neighbors started collecting in our house. Everyone was giving his or her opinion about getting the wound healed up at the earliest. Everyone was discussing about the household remedies. At that time an uncle took me to a nearby doctor. After examining me the doctor gave me some medicines and asked me to take rest for a few days.     I got completely cured after a few days. I think I once again got my lifeline, otherwise after such a serious head injury anything worst could have happened!

   I was getting my clothes pressed to get ready for college.  Bhai was shaving his beard in the courtyard. Suddenly the wire connecting the press and plug pulled apart. I forgot that the switch was on. While trying to connect both the wires I held them in my fingers.  As the live wire touched my thumb, it got stuck with my thumb. I felt the 330 volts current flowing in me. I was forcefully trying to remove the wire from my thumb. I was unable to remove it. I was trying to shout but I was not able to utter a single word!

 Suddenly my brother looked at me. He understood everything in a fraction of second ! He switched off the main line supplying electricity to our house.  As the flow of the current stopped, the wire got separated from my thumb. My body was still feeling the current flowing in me. I was totally stunned for some time but then everything seemed to be normal. I had got a new lifeline!

  I had almost reached my bus stop. I got off from the bus seat and headed towards the front door of the bus. In one hand I was holding my handbag. With other hand I was holding the side bar leading to the front door. Bus conductor was sitting on the front seat near the door.

                       Suddenly the driver had to apply brakes. Bus got big jerks but continued sliding for a while. As soon as the brake was applied,  my hand lost hold of the side bar. I fell upside down on the staircase leading to the front door. My handbag fell on the road . My head was about to touch the surface of the road. All of a sudden, the conductor caught hold of both of my feet firmly. There was hardly a difference of two inches between my head and the road! This new lifeline was certainly a miracle for me !
